Rwanda Chapter
Open Discussions and Congressional Receptions
NGC Rwanda hosts meetings with senators, members of parliaments ( MPs), the Forum for Women Parliamentarians (FFRP), and leaders in the public and private sectors to discuss the implementation of article IX of the Rwandan Constitution, application of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the role of youth in rebuilding and developing Rwanda. These discussions are open to the public and every citizen has the right to ask questions and get answers.

New Centralized Government Elections
NGC has assisted in passing on the message to women and youth interested in running for the office on decentralized levels through the country during election campaigns. We are planning to hold election education forums at universities and community events across the country. This will enhance women’s and youth’s self confidence to participate decision making.

Experience Sharing Through Summer Internship/Externship Program
Two students from Harvard Law School, one student from the Kennedy School of Governance and Public Policy, and five students from American University Washington College of Law will team up with the same number of young and university students in Rwanda this summer (2006). A team of fifteen students and young professionals will work on research in different fields, analyzing issues in relevant areas. We are coordinating with various institutions and other domestic organizations to prepare a list of issues that is most challenging in their work, and we will make use of our team of interns to develop possible recommendations.

Public Education Press Conference Against Restrictive Immigration Reform
NGC Rwanda will co-sponsor events with public and/or private institutions and community groups to educate the public on the importance of advocacy, activism, and the protection of human rights. We will also share with the world how they can learn from Rwanda’s experience in the past eleven years.

Data Bank
NGC Rwanda has committed to empower women in leadership and the next generation of women through building a data bank of all women in leadership and those graduating from high learning institutions (information will be available upon completion). This activity enables us to formulate the capacity building projects by identifying the areas where women need empowerment most. Activities to negotiate 100 scholarships primarily for masters level students are underway. Scholarships are expected to cover all fields of profession
.

Washington Chapter
NGC Washington handles all information technology matters, such as building and updating the website, information feeding and sharing, advocacy networking using technology, and grant seeking.

Boston Chapter
The main focus of the Boston chapter is to coordinate volunteers, interns/externs, pro bono workers, and scholarships for women. It also develops professional affiliation resources for youth. Both chapters in the United States work hand in hand with NGC Rwanda to support the organization, particularly empowering the project on the ground.
